International Society of Protein Termini
(ISPT)

2019 Annual Meeting

We would like to invite you to participate in "Protein Termini 2019", the 1st annual meeting of the International Society of Protein Termini (ISPT), which will be held at Seoul National University (SNU) in Seoul, Korea, during October 4-5.

Over past decades, research on protein termini has been continuously expanding in its components, mechanisms, and functions, now drawing attention from people in otherwise different fields. Scientists working on protein termini, including those on the N-end rule pathway, gradually realized that we need a network and a society to exchange ideas and promote close interactions with other scientists in this field. In 2017, a group of people in Europe held the N-term conference at Halle, Germany, the first international meeting focusing on protein N-termini. In 2018, we founded the International Society of Protein Termini (ISPT), a non-profit organization aimed, to gather together researchers in the fields of the N-end rule pathway as well as all aspects of protein termini (http://ispt.world). These include the role of protein termini in proteolysis via the ubiquitin-proteasome system and the autophagy-lysosome system. Approximately 300 people including ~100 PIs are expected to join ISPT, and we hope you will consider being one of them.

The 2019 N-term conference in Seoul will be the first meeting of ISPT. We invite you to participate, and to share your exciting research with other scientists in the field. The meeting information and registration can be found here:

Transportation

By Air:

We prefer Incheon or Kimpo airports to pick up speakers efficiently. You may wish to finalize your flight as soon as possible to secure the best rate.

Ground Transport:

We will arrange ground transportation for a small group (typically 4-5) of speakers and their guests as well as for registered participants. You may need to wait an hour or so to make a minimal group that can be accommodated in a vehicle. It takes approximately 1-1.5 hour from Incheon airport and approximately 1 hr from Kimpo airport to our hotel. We will begin to arrange ground transportation as soon as your flights are finalized.

For your departure from hotel, we suggest leaving 3.5 hours for taking flights from Incheon airport (1-1.5 hrs for the ride and 2 hours for the boarding) and 3 hours for Kimpo airport (1.2 hr for the ride and 1.8 hours for the boarding). You may adjust the timing according to your own schedule and preference.

The driver will be waiting for you at the airport exit or hotel lobby, holding a sign with your name. In case there is any problem, please contact Yong Tae Kwon by phone call (+82-10-8954-0282) or email (yok5@snu.ac.kr).

Option: If you wish to travel on your own, you can use a taxi which will cost ~60 USD to hotel. Most, but not all, Korean taxi drivers understand some English. Alternatively, there is a subway at the airport that will bring you to downtown, where you can take a taxi to the hotel. More detailed information will be added up in the next communications.

Visa Application

Travelers in most countries do not need a Korean via. Please check for specific requirements in your country. If you find out that you do need visa, you may cite hostís information as follows: Prof. Yong Tae Kwon (yok5@snu.ac.kr) at Protein Metabolism Medical Research Center (PMMRC), Seoul National University School of Medicine, Seoul, Korea. We will issue a formal invitation letter or the visa authorization letter if you contact Ms. Ho Sun Kim (hsk7672@snu.ac.kr), Manager at PMMRC with your full name, date of birth, nationality, as well as your passport number. Please check the updated information and leave at least 1 month for your visa application.

Mini-tour

Yong Tae Kwon and his lab members will prepare a mini-tour in the afternoon (~2 pm, after lunch) on October 3 for speakers and their guests who have arrived earlier. After tour, all the speakers and their guests are invited to dinner party. We will update it once the plan is finalized.

If you have never been in Korea, you may take this opportunity to spend a few relaxing days in Seoul before or after the meeting. We look forward to your participation!

Sincerely,

Yong Tae Kwon (Seoul National University, Korea)
